Trim Levels (Exterior)
You can choose from five trim levels with the new Explorer: the base trim, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. With the base trim comes dual chrome exhaust tips, LED head- and taillights, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, a liftgate spoiler, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The XLT trim adds silver roof-rack side rails, and the Limited trim adds a hands-free, foot-activated liftgate, LED fog lights, LED signature lighting, power-folding mirrors with memory, and chrome roof-rack side rails. <br></br> With the Sport trim you'll get quad chrome exhaust tips, mirrors with turn-signal indicators, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. The Platinum trim offers rain-sensing wipers and a twin-panel moonroof.
Engine (Power)
The 2019 Explorer features three engines. The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 that is good for 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. On option also is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4, generating 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged 3.5-liter engine, producing 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. All engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. With the base, XLT, and Limited trims you can opt for front-wheel or all-wheel-drive, while the Sport and Platinum trims come with all-wheel-drive exclusively.
Performance
When equipped properly, your Explorer will be able to tow as much as 5,000 pounds. There are also standard and available features offered with the Explorer that make for safe and effortless towing. The standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control system features trailer sway control that automatically controls brakes and adjusts engine power when sway is detected, affording you a more controlled drive even when hauling heavy loads. The standard hill start assist and available hill descent control systems will also give you more capability and control when you're ascending or descending a steep grade while towing.
Interior
The cabin of the Explorer is roomy, and optional sliding second-row seats make for easy access to the third-row seats. The Base trim offers a basic SYNC infotainment system with a 4.2-inch display, Bluetooth, a USB port, and voice-command. Other features included with this trim are a rearview camera, cruise control, a leather-wrapped shift knob, cloth upholstery, second-row 60/40 and third-row 50/50 split-folding seat benches, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. <br></br> With the XLT trim, you'll get push-button start, upgraded cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and SiriusXM. The Limited trim offers the SYNC 3 system that features navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a Sony audio system with 12 speakers, an 8-inch display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The trim also offers dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, perforated leather upholstery, power-folding third-row seats, and heated and ventilated front seats. Higher trims add upgraded leather upholstery and power-adjustable pedals with memory.
Safety Features
Available driver-assist features offered with the Explorer include a reverse and forward sensing system, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, control and collision warning with brake control, enhanced active park assist with pull out assist, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.
