2019 Ford EcoSport

The five-row subcompact 2019 Ford EcoSport is offered in four trim levels. The base level is the S, with the midrange at the SE and SES trims, and the top trim being the Titanium. The exterior appearance matches that of Ford's other crossovers, with sleek lines and an aerodynamic profile. It features 16-inch alloy wheels at the base level, which upgrade to 17-inch wheels at the SES and Titanium levels.

The base engine that powers those trims with front-wheel drive is a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder which gives you 123 horsepower backed up by 125 pound-feet of torque. These models can opt for the all-wheel drive that's powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder which gets 166 horses and 149 pound-feet. Either way, you get a six-speed automatic transmission.

The EcoSport's short wheelbase makes for exceptionally sharp handling. The four-cylinder may seem small, but for a subcompact crossover, it offers plenty of power and performance to get the job done. According to Edmunds, the vehicle equipped with a four-cylinder engine goes from zero to 60 in just over 10 seconds, which is in line with other vehicles in the segment. It also comes to a stop in about 124 feet from 60 mph, which marks it in line with other vehicles in its class. The steering is accurate and confident, and there's low body roll.

The seats are very supportive and the cabin quite serene. It does a great job of mitigating road noise and smoothing out jars and bumps. Entry and exit are quite easy, and power adjustable seats make sure you always have a secure and supportive position. Driver and passengers alike have ample space, with 91.1 cubic feet of passenger space total. Cargo space is plentiful, with 20.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and 50 cubic feet with the back seats folded down.

The new EcoSport offers safety features such as available blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alerts with blind spot monitoring, and parking sensors in the back. It received a 4-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Though 2019 IIHS ratings are not yet available, the 2018 ratings included an overall top Good rating, and there's no reason to expect less from the 2019 model.
