Performance

Even though the F-150 and RAM 1500 both come with robust engines, the F-150 outperforms the RAM 1500 when it comes to handling and drivability. The RAM 1500's eight-speed automatic transmission is adequate but doesn't measure up to the F-150's 10-speed automatic. Because it has more gears to shift through, the F-150's transmission is more flexible when accelerating, making the F-150 a more agile pickup truck. Plus, it does a better job conserving fuel than the 1500's system. Ford's adjustable air suspension is another performance dynamic you can take advantage of if you go with the F-150. It can lower the truck to reduce drag at higher speeds or lift it when you need more ground clearance. The RAM 1500 doesn't offer such a versatile suspension.




Towing Capabilities

If you compare the F-150's towing capabilities to the RAM 1500's, Ford's signature pickup truck comes out on top. While a properly equipped 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds, you can use a properly equipped F-150 to tow up to 14,000 pounds. Also, the F-150 gives you trailer hitch assistance, backup assistance, and a reverse guidance system, trailering technologies you won't find in the RAM 1500.
