1. Cafe Steam
Café Stream is a locally owned, independent coffee house. They opened their first location in 2015 and today have a total of three stores; Downtown at 315 South Broadway, inside the Hilton Doubletree at 150 South Broadway, and at One Discovery Square 201 4th Street SW. They source as many ingredients and products as possible from local suppliers and aim to exist as a community-based coffee house.
Inside, you’ll find a range of art and merchandise for sale, and they often host live music from talented local acts. On the menu are all the usual espresso-based beverages. Plus, a few house specials such as spiced Thai coffee and The Mayan, which combines drip coffee, steamed milk, chocolate, and cayenne pepper. They also serve a selection of loose-leaf steeped teas from local importer Mandala Tea.
2. Fiddlehead Coffee
Fiddlehead Coffee has two beautiful coffee houses in Rochester, one at Avani – 1610 W Center Street, and another at Flats – 412 3rd Avenue SE. The Flats location features a full lunch menu, bar, and a weekend brunch. Both locations offer a range of delicious freshly baked goods that will pair perfectly with coffee. They serve every type of coffee imaginable, as well as handcrafted seltzers, loose leaf tea, and hot chocolates.
Fiddlehead works directly with coffee farmers to ensure fair trade, ethically farmed, and high-quality beans. The beans are then roasted right here in Rochester. So you can enjoy a fresh cup every time. You can purchase a bag of beans for home brewing. They regularly host live music and also serve beer, wine, and handcrafted cocktails. 3. Lumen Coffee
This independent drive-through coffeehouse is located at 55th Street in Northwest Rochester at the Northwest Plaza. Their coffee is both organic and fairtrade and is roasted right here in Rochester. As well as organic, pasture-grazed milk, customers can also choose from a selection of plant-based milk, including oat, coconut, and almond. Their full espresso bar pours all the classic espresso-based drinks, along with a selection of specialties, such as the Honey Lavender Latte, White Macadamia Latte, Churro Frappe, and Butter Coffee.
They also serve food to go with your drink order, such as their English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich, Avocado Toast with Smoked Egg, Turkey Bacon Provolone with Spicy Mayo, and overnight oats. Lumen Coffee is open seven days a week. Monday to Friday from 5.30 am until 6 pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 6 am till 6 pm.
