This organization, found at 311 Broadway Ave S, empowers the community of Rochester with inclusive art exhibits and experiences for all skill levels. Their events calendar is brimming with interesting workshops, from how to make a stuffed animal from a child’s drawing, creating pom-pom flair for your roller skates at a roller-disco-themed art party, to singing bowl meditation for cleansing the body and spirit.
As you walk around downtown, you’ll notice many vibrant street art installations that Threshold Arts helped fund and implement. The Rive of Color sidewalk mural is located in an alley between 2nd and 3rd Street, and an interactive video installation named Together is on the corner of Broadway and 4th. In their storefront, you will find handmade pieces from over eighty local artists and makers.
2. SEMVA Satellite Art Gallery
The storefront for the Southeastern Minnesota Visual Arts initiative can be found at 20 2nd Ave SW, where regional artists network, market, and expand on their craft. You’ll find stunning masterpieces of all materials, including paintings, woodworking, glass, sculpture, and all sorts of wearable art. Many of the artists involved with SEMVA also have displays viewable at the Kahler Grand Hotel and teach classes at their location at 320 South Broadway.

Located in the heart of historic downtown at 317 Broadway Ave S, this local gem elevates the artistic experience with private parties, workshops, and even art camps for all ages. You’ll find crystals, vintage treasures, charming minerals, handcrafted jewelry, and a plethora of art in the Emporium that will leave your heart feeling full. The quaint atmosphere emphasizes their goal to create a safe and inclusive space for artists and visitors.
For adults who enjoy drinking a responsible beverage while learning a new creative skill, inquire about their BYOB classes, like the Sacred Candle class with dried florals, greenery, and gold leafing taught by an expert!
4. Rochester Art Center
For an array of contemporary art, including local, national, and international exhibits, hop in your 2022 Ford Bronco and drive down to 30 Civic Center Drive SE STE 120. Their exhibits explore meaningful and powerful topics that have social, cultural, and political impacts, such as walking to start a movement.
