1. Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo

With over 500 acres to explore, this park is a must-see. There are camping areas, ski trails, and hiking areas throughout the park. The zoo that’s located inside the park has many of Minnesota’s native animals including otters, eagles, bears, and more. A nature center with educational activities for kids is also at the sight.

2. The Rochester Civic Theater Company

This playhouse is known for producing live theater, dance, and music presentations. Originating in 1951, the non-profit theater’s mission is to educate and introduce the arts to the Rochester area. Some upcoming productions include It’s A Wonderful Life and Sister Luv.

3. Water Sports

Minnesota is known for its beautiful lakes and great fishing. In Rochester, you can rent kayaks to paddle down the Zumbro River or float around in Silver Lake. Foster Arend Park is a swimmer’s paradise with a sandy beach and clear water. Also for swimmers, Soldier’s Field Pool has a water slide that’s over 100 feet high.

4. Rochester Art Center

The Rochester Art Center is an impressive attraction with several contemporary exhibits for art enthusiasts. Exhibits include paintings, photographs, and multi-media work. There are also interactive experiences for families. The most popular is a sculpture in front of the building, which is known as the wishing well. You can put messages in, and it will translate them into braille and play music to match the translation.

5. Rochester Children’s Museum

This museum is dedicated to teaching kids about the environment in a fun way they’ll enjoy. There over 5,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and creative programs to keep kids engaged. At only $5.50 to get in, this is a great place to spend the day with the kids.

6. Down by the Riverside Concerts

The Music Department of Rochester puts on a free summer concert series every year. It brings in acts from all over the country that perform many different types of music. The concerts are played on the banks of the Zumbro River with beautiful views of the area.

7. Salem Glen Vineyard and Winery

This inviting location offers its own blended wine, apple cider, and artisan pizza all in one location. The winery is family-owned and specializes in small-batch wine made from regional grapes.

8. Little Thistle Brewing Company

A family-owned brewery and outdoor beer garden, the Little Thistle also has some family-friendly amenities. Starting with the taproom, there are many flavorful choices including seasonal beers. It’s also located on the Douglas Bike Trail where you can relax in the beer garden after a ride. For the kids, there’s an arcade and shuffleboard game room to hang out in.
